Wildland Fire, Human Perspectives, and Fire Management in Jackson Hole, Wyoming

This Wildland fire management course will examine the interface and interactions of forest ecology; fire behavior and physics; human values and economics; fire management and climate change. This course will focus on the forests of the Rocky Mountains using a case study of the Green Knoll fire and the Wildland Urban Interface in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Students will experience fire and wildland urban interface field data collection, stakeholder interviews, management plan preparation, and synthesis of climate change adaptation. The overall educational approach is student inquiry followed by problem solving in a real world environment with presentation of solutions to stakeholders.
