Foundation: Authors’ Workshop for a Compilation of Classic and Contemporary Writings Tracing the Development of Socio-Environmental Research

"Authors’ Workshop for a Compilation of Classic and Contemporary Writings Tracing the Development of Socio-Environmental Research"

Our proposed volume, Foundations of Social-Environmental Research, seeks to address the fragmentation of knowledge production associated with socio-environmental research by providing a single, go-to source of classic readings and contemporary theories that constitute the intellectual lineage and current scope of socio-environmental resear

Pursuit: A Socio-Environmental Synthesis of the Linkages between Water Scarcity Induced Conflict and Land Use/Land Cover Change in Africa to Enhance Multi-Scalar Decision Making

"A Socio-Environmental Synthesis of the Linkages between Water Scarcity Induced Conflict and Land Use/Land Cover Change in Africa to Enhance Multi-Scalar Decision Making"

This Pursuit will combine the expertise of social and environmental scientists, NGOs, and government officials to examine where, when, how and why conflicts arise over water.

Pursuit: Synergistic Interactions of Environmental Degradation, Socio-Economic Development and Infectious Disease Dynamics in the Amazon Region

"Synergistic Interactions of Environmental Degradation, Socio-Economic Development and Infectious Disease Dynamics in the Amazon Region"

This Pursuit will use data from land-use changes, disease records, and socio-economic surveys to map spatio-temporal patterns of disease transmission onto socio-economic changes underway in the Amazon, and vice-versa. The team will deliver a framework for formulating and parameterizing models of vector-borne diseases in landscapes undergoing rapid transformation.

Pursuit: Social-Ecological Drivers of Change Over Time in Urban Woodlands

"Social-Ecological Drivers of Change Over Time in Urban Woodlands"

Remnant and regenerating forest patches are hotspots of biodiversity and ecosystem services in urban regions. Social uses and benefits, abrupt forest edges, introduced and invasive species, and urban climate warming combine to create novel ecological conditions and management challenges in urban woodlands. An array of public, private, and non-profit organizations engage in management and stewardship of these urban woodland patches.

Workshop: Synthesizing Research on Pastoral Governance of Common-Pool Resources

"Synthesizing Research on Pastoral Governance of Common-Pool Resources"

Communities of mobile livestock keepers—pastoralists—often have systems for the governance and management of land and resources that do not conform to theoretical models that have been developed based on experience in other kinds of ecosystems.

Graduate Pursuit: The Globalization of Conservation: How Public Perceptions of Biodiversity and International Trade Patterns Shape Mangrove Conservation

"The Globalization of Conservation: How Public Perceptions of Biodiversity and International Trade Patterns Shape Mangrove Conservation"

Although conservation is implemented locally, the forces that shape conservation policy and decision-making are increasingly global. Simultaneously promoting human prosperity while protecting biodiversity requires an understanding of how interactions between global and local forces shape conservation management.
