"Planning for Sustainable Water Futures in Sub-Saharan Africa in the Context of the SDGs"

The goal of this proposed Pursuit is to aid planning for sustainable water futures in sub-Saharan Africa built around provision of FWES from healthy freshwater ecosystems, in support of achieving the SDGs. The team will synthesize existing knowledge and data across sub-Saharan Africa on FWES and the distribution and role of grey infrastructure.

The Death and Life ofBiodiversity: Modeling Extinction and Resilience on Islands

This Pursuit will translate models of extinction dates, overlap between fauna and early human populations, and species distributions, into demographic predictions and structured threat assessments. These estimates will generate comparisons of extinction rates under varying regimes of human use and disturbance and demographic projections under alternative future scenarios.

This Graduate Pursuit will investigate how public perceptions of biodiversity may influence conservation. We will quantify the relative influence of public perceptions on conservation success at the country level, as well as conduct a case-study comparison of three mangrove-holding nations.
